When is gastroscopy (oral or nasal) the right choice?

Gastroscopy is used for persistent dyspepsia, reflux/GERD with alarm symptoms, dysphagia, vomiting, unexplained anaemia or weight loss, and suspected ulcer, coeliac disease or Barrett's oesophagus. We offer both oral and transnasal gastroscopy — the nasal variant is performed without sedation and is often more comfortable.

When should I have a colonoscopy?

Colonoscopy is indicated for visible or occult blood in the stool, persistent diarrhoea, iron-deficiency anaemia, suspected inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's/ulcerative colitis), polyp surveillance or screening in families with a predisposition to colorectal cancer.

When is capsule endoscopy used instead of a scope?

Accepted Answer

Capsule endoscopy (CapsoVision) examines the small intestine — an area that cannot be reached with gastroscopy or colonoscopy. When gastroscopy and colonoscopy are normal, the small bowel may be a relevant next step in the assessment, but the source of bleeding is not always found. The method may also be considered for suspected small-bowel Crohn's disease or polyps in hereditary syndromes, and is used to complement — not replace — MR or CT enterography. If you have acute illness, circulatory symptoms (dizziness, fainting, a rapid pulse or pallor) or ongoing bleeding, seek immediate medical assessment rather than an ordinary clinic booking.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

Accepted Answer

No, a referral from your GP is not required to book with us. The clinic is led by consultant surgeon Dr. Bahir Hadi, who handles both diagnostics and treatment of gastrointestinal conditions. Some findings may require onward referral to hospital or another relevant specialty.

Who performs the SIBO test?

Accepted Answer

We perform the H₂/CH₄ breath test with glucose or lactulose ourselves in the clinic and if the test may support the suspicion, we consider the further plan through an individual medical assessment. Some patients may still need onward referral. Fructose malabsorption is assessed separately.

Can halitosis be diagnosed and treated at EndoCap?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We objectively measure sulphur compounds (H₂S, CH₃SH, (CH₃)₂S) with OralChroma and combine this with clinical assessment. If a gastrointestinal cause is suspected, we perform the necessary GI assessment ourselves. Only purely ENT or internal-medicine causes (sinus, liver, kidney, diabetes) are referred externally.

How does an IBS assessment proceed?

Accepted Answer

We follow the Rome V criteria, screen for alarm symptoms (red flags) and rule out organic disease — including endoscopy, calprotectin and SIBO testing when relevant — before we put together an individual treatment plan with diet (low-FODMAP), medication and follow-up. Everything happens in the clinic.
